Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has sold the very first tweet ever posted on the platform as an NFT, Reuters reports.

Dorsey published the tweet, "just setting up my twttr," on March 21, 2006. It was sold through Valuables, an auction platform run by US company Cent. As an NFT, the tweet carries a blockchain-based signature that records the asset and who owns it.

Cent CEO Cameron Hejazi argued that whether assets like this rise or fall in value, the story of who bought it from whom stays with the buyer, the seller, and the public watching. In his view, that makes the sale inherently valuable.

The buyer, Sina Estavi, the Malaysia-based CEO of blockchain company Bridge Oracle, paid 1,630.5825601 ether, roughly $2.9 million.

Dorsey plans to convert the proceeds to bitcoin and donate them to GiveDirectly's Africa Response fund, which supports people affected by COVID-19. Dorsey receives 95% of the sale, while Cent, which ran the auction, keeps 5%.

Твіт “just setting up my twttr” Дорсі опублікував 21 березня 2006 року.
